INTRODUCTION OF A SOCIETY REGISTRATION
As per the Societies Registration Act 1860, any seven or more persons associated with each other for literary, scientific or charitable purposes (listed in Section 20, Societies Registration Act 1860) may form themselves into a society.
Asper Section 20 of the act, the following types of Societies can be registered under this Societies Registration Act 1860.
- Charitable Societies
- Military Orphan Societies
- Societies established for the promotion of Science, Literature, Fine Arts
- Societies established for the instruction of useful knowledge.
- Societies established for the diffusion of Political Education.
- Societies established for the foundation and maintenance of Libraries, Reading Rooms, Museums, Galleries of Paintings and other works of art.
- Societies established for the collection and preservation of Natural History, Mechanical and Philosophical Inventions, Instruments or Designs.
The Societies Registration Act 1860 is accepted and augmented all over India by every State Government (Some have incorporated the act with certain amendments)

PROCESS OF REGISTRATION OF A SOCIETY
Every Indian State Government beholds the authority to register a Society which comes under its jurisdiction. A Registrar of Society is appointed in every district of the State who processes all the Registration applications of the Societies that reside in the district.
In case a Society performs its operations all over the State, then it has to be registered in the State Registration Office.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
Certain mandatory documents are to be submitted along with the application for Registering a Society. These documents precisely present all the necessary information required by the Registrar of Societies for processing the application.
The necessary Documents are listed below:
- PAN Card of all the members of the Society must be submitted along with the application.
- Proof of Residence of all the Societal Members (such as bank statement, utility bank, passport, Aadhaar Card, or Passport)
- The Memorandum of Association (MOA)
Memorandum of Association (MOA): The Memorandum of Association (MOA) is the most important document that needs to be submitted for the approval process of a Society. After submitting the Society Registration Application, the Registrar will take approximately 5 days (minimum) to 15 days (maximum) to process the application (The time of processing varies according to the Registered Office Address and the Jurisdiction of the Registrar of Societies)
After approving the application, the Registrar will issue a Registration Certificate to the Society, which has a lifetime validity (subject to ratification and regular annual renewal).
The Society can commence its operations upon the reception of the Society Registration Certificate.
